Before you read any further, if you are new to coloured contacts, take a look at our blog on 'Everything You Need to Know About Coloured Contacts' here. This blog goes through the types of material the lenses are made from, and the different styles such as a natural or dramatic look, lenses to make your eyes appear bigger, and party lenses. We also talk about the power and astigmatism options available, and our current best sellers. Now you are a little more acquainted with coloured contacts, let us continue with choosing your colour!
Colours to match skin tone
Despite what we recommend in this guide,
when picking your colour, make sure it is something you feel comfortable
wearing. For us, that is the most important part of all. We also recommend
starting with something more natural and building up to a more dramatic look if
it is your first time experimenting with coloured lenses. This gives you time
to get used to your new look without shocking yourself with a drastic change.
It is important to remember that all skin
tones can either have undertones of warm, cool, or neutral. Warmer skin undertones
normally suit brown, hazel, and green colours. Cooler skin undertones are usually
more suited to blue, green, grey, and violet colours. And neutral skin undertones
can suit a mix of both warm and cool colours. Knowing your skin undertone may
help to better determine the colour of lenses that best suit your natural skin
tone.
Colours for darker skin tone
For a more natural look we recommend
choosing warmer colours such as honey, brown, and hazel. These colours will
complement warmer skin tones, by adding warmth and dimension to your face. If
you are wanting to add extra colour for a more dramatic look, cooler colours
like grey, green, and amethyst will make your eyes glow for a more alluring appearance.
Colours for tanned skin tone
Tanned skin typically has warm undertones
which also suits warmer colours such as honey, brown, and hazel. These colours
can naturally enhance your skin tone to create a more radiant look. You can
also opt for a natural green, or even something like a gemstone green or a deep
blue for a more vibrant colour pop.
Colours for medium skin tone
Medium skin tones can suit either warm or
cool shades. Colours such as light or dark greens can create a lovely contrast
against your skin, whereas your warm brown colours add a delightful richness
and warmth. Meanwhile violet and sapphire are perfect colours for those who
like to add a little mystery to their look.
Colours for lighter skin tone
For a natural look on lighter skin tones,
we suggest either blue, green, hazel, brown, and grey coloured lenses. These colours
complement skin undertones, giving you an elegant look. For a more dramatic
look, bright colours such as turquoise, amethyst, brilliant blue, and sterling
grey can make your eyes dazzle and stand out in the crowd.
Colours to match hair colour
It isn’t just our skin tone that
determines what colour contacts best suits us, the colour of our hair can also
influence how our lenses look. Take into consideration your skin tone in
relation to your hair colour when choosing your coloured contacts.
Colours for black hair
For a natural look, brown contacts best
suit black hair, however, if you are looking for a contrasted look, blue and
green colours can accentuate this nicely.
Colours for dark brown to medium brown
hair
Hazel and brown coloured lenses give your
brown hair a natural look, whereas green and blue coloured lenses will give your
brunette hair a more striking appearance.
Colours for light brown to blonde hair
Lighter coloured hair can suit natural
colours like browns, blues, and greens. If you have platinum blonde hair, you
may prefer a more dramatic appearance such as gemstone green, bright blue, or
violet.
Colours for red hair
The warm tones in red hair contrasts
perfectly with coloured lenses such as honey, green, and hazel. These colours
bring out the colour in your eyes, and add depth to your look.
Consider your natural eye colour
Take note that your natural eye colour
can determine how your lenses look on your face. If wanting a visible change in
colour, darker eyes are suited to lenses that are made specifically to conceal
naturally dark irises. If the lenses are made to enhance natural eye colour,
then you may not see the results you are after on dark eyes. However, for those
with lighter coloured eyes who are wanting a more natural look, the lenses to
enhance natural eye colour may be the perfect pick for you.
